THE CASTLE

After its world premiere in the Panorama section of the Berlin International Film Festival, El Castillo was presented at the 47th Hong Kong International Film Festival, where Martín Benchimol was crowned Best Director, in what is his solo film debut. Jury’s Comments: For delivering a major film in a minor key, we’re happy to witness a sure-handed subtle directorial debut which at once illustrates a dynamic and difficult mother-daughter relationship and an allegory about the struggle of disadvantaged indigenous people against the affluent social elite.

EL CASTILLO directed by Martín Benchimol, produced by Mayra Bottero, Gema Juárez Allen and Clarisa Oliveri, co-produced by Heidi Fleisher and Julie Paratian, is a film starring Justina Olivo and Alexia Caminos Olivo.

Having worked as a housekeeper all her life, Justina inherits from her former employer a mansion in the middle of the Argentinian pampas. Under one condition: she must never leave. In this modern fairytale, Justina and her daughter Alexia will face the challenges of keeping that promise alive.
